Fundraising

Since 2005, The Whittier Community Foundation has worked year-round to raise funds through special events held within the community of Whittier. To date, the Foundation has raised over $500,000 through our fundraisers, private donations, and grants. Each year the Foundation’s Board of Directors identifies special projects that will enhance and benefit the Whittier Community.

“Dancing with the Whittier Stars”

Showcases each May with 12 enthusiastic amateur dancers putting on three competitive dancing shows, similar to the popular show “Dancing with the Stars”. Each night a packed house of 400 fans, friends, and family clap and cheer on their favorite dancer. Many dancers have never danced beyond the occasional wedding let alone in competition, but through the professional training of Rudy and Maria Hernandez of RMH Dance and Productions, these dancers transform! With grace, glitter, lights and great music, each dancer displays months of hard work and training by dancing to choreographed dance routines, including; The Waltz, Swing, Jitterbug, Foxtrot, Disco, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Jive, Quickstep, Tango and the Samba. Dinner and wine are served prior to the performance of those attending. Tickets are on sale directly from each dancer or at the Community Services office window at the Whittier Community Center at 7630 Washington Ave, Whittier, CA 90602.

“Whittier Spooktacular 5K Run/Walk and Creepy Crawly 1/2 Mile Dash”

Promotes fitness for all ages and is held on a USATF Certified course that runs through beautiful Uptown Whittier. This event is in its 8th year now and is held at the end of October and draws over 1,500 people to the community. The event is Co-Sponsored by the Whittier Community Foundation and the Whittier Host Lions Club. The race always features a Halloween theme with hundreds of costumes on display by racers during the race and showcased for the costume contest that follows the race. The Children’s Creepy Crawly 1/2 mile dash starts the festivities off for the younger participants, with the Spooktacular 5K Race following right behind. Both courses are closed courses from any vehicle traffic. Each racer receives a medal, breakfast and goodie bag while enjoying vendors, music, raffle prizes, beer garden and great food!
